Having an authentic world in which your story takes place is obviously incredibly important and especially for fantasy and science fiction novels plays creating a world on your own a big role.
Nothing is set in stone here and you’re welcome to get inpiration and take whatever works for you. This is intended to inspire and to give guidelines, because the sea of possibilities is endless and it’s easy to get lost in details.

Most of you will probably feel the urge to get started immediately, because, let’s be honest, this is a fun and exciting activity where you can pour all of your creativity in.
Though if you have never done world building before, you’ll soon realize that this is time-intensive labor. Especially if you want to create a realistic and coherent world – only God can do this in seven days ;).
Another important news: You will never ever be finished. No matter how much time you put in. Crafting a world is a bottomless pit and the art is to know when you’re done. Otherwise I guarantee frustration and wasted time.
If you keep this in mind, you can focus on creating a thrilling and authentic world and enjoy the process tremendously. Building a world is fascinating and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!
